(A)Typical Woman Free, Whole, and Called in Christ by Abigail Dodds - Crossway

Español & English Post

If you, like me, use to read about womanhood, probably you want to give this one a try. Or probably you don't because probably you think that by now that you have read it "all", and by now you know it all. Well, let me remind you this: you don't, we don't. That is the beauty of God, He is always showing us some more about Him and about us. He uses tools like this book to encourage us to endure, persevere in His will, in any stage of life.

Must confess that I did not like the cover page, until I read the Author explanation... but I always try not to judge a book by the cover. And then, when I read John Piper's endorsement about this book I knew I wanted to give it a try!

“God is calling Christian women not to be typical, but to be faithful, joyful, and fruitful—in a hundred significant good works prepared before the universe existed. Abigail Dodds is a proven voice for truth among today’s cacophony of counsel for women. Her passion is that women love being God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated women. This is not the portrait of womanhood painted by the world. Therefore, she is not calling for something easy, but something courageous. I hope you consider her challenge.”John Piper, Founder and Teacher, desiringGod.org; Chancellor, Bethlehem College & Seminary; author, Desiring God
I invite you to read this book because we typically need this message.

Who wants to be all He wants us to be? I definitely want everything He wants for me.

We need to remind ourselves about it every day, in a world that is continuously screaming the opposite. May God help us in this journey. Amen!.

P.S. Crossway Books thank you! (you never disappoint). Thank you, Abigail Dodds, I have enjoyed your writing in Desiring God, but I prefer the length of books. May God continue using your words to bless others. Even if He gives you the words you would not choose.

-I read an ARC. The book officially releases in January 31, 2019-

Description
What does it mean to be created as a woman? The mainstream culture offers many answers, emphasizing outward beauty, independence, and self-actualization. But rather than confusing cultural norms, Christian women have something more secure to center their womanhood on: Jesus Christ. Seeking to rediscover the full reality of what it means to be female, this book looks to God’s Word to help readers avoid the temptation to belittle womanhood on one hand or glorify it on the other. With chapters addressing womanhood in singleness, marriage, working, mothering, suffering, discipling, and more, this book will help Christian women live out their callings as free, authentic, indispensable members of Christ's mission and work.

A Mom's Guide to Lies Girls Believe & the Truth that sets them Free by Dannah Gresh - Moody Publishers

This guide for moms is a useful tool for those who are considering reading or teaching their daughters the book Lies Girls Believe and the Truth that Sets Them Free by Dannah Gresh - Moody Publishers (you can read my review here), that is, not only give them away but accompany them in that reading) or comment extras with them.

It is necessary to have tools for the daughters. I know moms who would never think of how to approach these issues with them, this book can be very useful. I commented in my previous post that it is very exciting to see a book born, and when there are two that complement each other it is very useful. It is the practicality of Dannah Gresh, who in her books explains in an understandable and simple way, even with examples of how to do it. However, I think they are books that can be read separately and still serve.

The Guide for moms, is designed to make it easier to talk about these issues, even if a woman does not have much experience in dealing with them (especially current ones, such as technology management, or modern pressures), it will be easy to get involved and I can guide her through those truths. I think it can also be done by an aunt, grandmother or woman involved in the life of a girl, if she does not have a mother. When walking together for the content of this book, I consider that it will be more memorable and intentional than if they read it alone, in my opinion. It is an excellent idea that guides like this one are generated for moms who do not have as much creativity or ideas on how to teach little ones about important issues.

If you are a mom, I recommend reading this guide, it covers topics that the book does not include for girls, a decision that I consider very sensible, since there are some very strong ones that I consider that each mother should decide when to deal with her children. It helps you to open your eyes to the realities that many girls are experiencing and that their mothers consider that they are very naive or innocent.

I also received the guide last year for its review and I am excited to tell you that it will be part of my "curriculum" with my daughter. The official release of the books is February 5, 2019, but order them already in presale !, (both the book for girls, as the Guide for moms).

I want to emphasize that if you are familiar with the other books in the series (Lies That Young Women Believe and Lies Women Believe) the process of deepening with them, according to their needs and age, will be easier for you, and this does not mean that the content is the same, no. In addition both Nancy and Dannah have very different styles when writing.

The concepts and advice are countercultural, yes, but I encourage you to always examine everything, to investigate deeply and retain the good, apply it and enjoy it. There are several people who have made very un-objective reviews, critical assertions and unfounded denigration. I invite you to read the entire book and judge for yourselves. I regret the lack of ethics to criticize without knowing or researching well, or why, knowing that they do not sympathize with the authors or lines of thought with the content (as it is very clear in the description) only want to boycott these efforts. Well, the intention of the author you can notice that at all times is the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being of girls in all their relationships, and obviously also their mothers.

I encourage you to acquire this combo to go forming true girls :)
Description:

Lies Girls Believe And the Truth that Sets Them Free by Dannah Gresh - Moody Publishers

Mi esposo me animaba mucho y comentaba ideas.

ENGLISH ______________________________________________ It is great to see a book being born, and when there are two, even more! Time ago, my daughter participated in the surveys with girls that appear in the content, and she is very excited to have it. Some of her answers made me think of many more girls who need this material. That's why I'm so happy that these books are already available. There are some lies that are disguised as truth, just like the cover of this book, something appetizing, bright, with a lot of sweetness, sparks of colors and adornments that make them look delicious and appetizing ... we bite them, we believe them. Having been captured myself, during my childhood-adolescence-youth, by several of the lies that Nancy Leigh DeMoss talks about in her book "Lies That Women Believe and the Truth That Makes You Free", I thought, for many years, in the need for intentional instruction to girls, on various topics (especially some that are taboo or so controversial at present), to give them a broader perspective of the lies that are "socially accepted and widespread" but so hollow, to which they are continually exposed in the media and which bring so much emptiness and pain to so many lives. Above all, when I became the mother of a girl (8 years 5 months ago) the desire to have a book specifically for girls grew, with issues important for their formation. Thinking first of my girl, I started writing one to take several topics that I wanted to discuss with her. Then I thought that since I was going to do it, I could even use it to reach more girls, daughters of friends or acquaintances or others with these truths. In the absence of such a book, simple, beautiful, practical and useful for girls, I thought of the phrase that they say: "if there is no book like you need, write it". I started to dream and write ideas about that book. I even contacted some illustrators to. My husband encourages me and comments ideas. I told some sisters and friends. Then, in the inter, several divinely orchestrated things happened that made me "pause" the plan and obviously the book did not come out, as I wanted, in 2017. Obviously it would not be a book with this title, nor with these themes, but the The intention was very similar: to bless, edify and mentor girls. I write and I tell you all this to encourage you and make you notice something: God is always attentive to our needs. He provides even BEFORE we need something. We do not always have to carry out every idea idea or look for how to supply every need we have, He does it before you know you need it! Many times that strong idea you have, or that need you see out there, is there so that you pray for it or encourage the right people to do it, you have to use the ideas and enthusiasm to pray that the right people will carry it out. You can pray and act to make it happen. Sharing about this book is very joyful for me, because finally! there is a book for girls that Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth with all her experience and wisdom and Dannah Gresh, who works with girls and young women wrote it, yes, they heard us! Both of them, for many years, have also seen this need in the girls and made equipment to prepare it and be a blessing to this generation. I received these preview copies last year to proof read and review and I am excited to tell you that they are available! you can buy them already in presale! Its official launch is on February 5, 2019, (both the book for girls, and the Guide for moms). You can order it from NOW! I am excited about the provision of this material because it arrives just in time to my life, when I can study it and then share it with my daughter! (The book is recommended for girls between 9 and 12 years old). Fortunately I did not have to wait to be old, live a lot, have experience and wisdom on all of these issues and especially have time to write (haha) yes my daughter is now ready to enjoy and learn from the! best, we did not have to wait until my granddaughters! hehe If you do not speak English, I'm sure very soon we will also have your translation into Spanish, so be patient!. The book is designed to be interactive, the girls not only read about the lies, but they can react to what is presented to them, meditate while doing the activities and use the space they have to write their notes in the book. That is why I recommend much more to buy the printed version of the book and not so much the digital kindle version. Expect a beautiful book, and also full of eternal truths. I liked so much watching the cartoons of Nancy and Dannah, (they are lovely and gracefully identical!, you may see a preview of them, but wait for the awesome finished product in February 5th! The great designer Julia Ryan did the cute interior design & Ilustrations) There is also a girl Zoe, with whom the little ones can identify themselves by looking at the situations and problems they have to face in a simple and understandable way. I did not feel the book as deep as others in the saga, but it is precisely because it is for girls and this, instead of being seen as an inconvenience, shows me that it will be accessible to many girls who may not be used to reading and can take the book as a guide or an icebreaker so that the mothers, grandmothers or aunts who take care of the formation of girls can use as a guide to talk about these issues. If you are familiar with the other books in the series (Lies That Young Women Believe and Lies Women Believe) the process of deepening with them, according to their needs and age, will be easier for you. The book encourages a healthy identity in the little ones, as well as relationships with family and friends (it also prepares them not to become girls obsessed with themselves or with boys). It is a book designed for girls to read it and fill it out, and the Guide for moms, makes it easier, even if a woman does not have much experience in dealing with these issues (especially the current ones, such as the management of technology, or modern pressures), it will be easy to get involved and guide it through these truths. I also want to add something, because I have already seen it and although it hurts, it does not surprise me: It is to be expected even more critical to this type of books, as everything that is not fashionable or is "socially popular", since it defines, for example, in a scientific way, because of its genetics to boys and girls as well, with its gender. Others also exaggerate the issue of healthy limits, since they think that even small children should experience irresponsibly with all kinds of experiences. That's what adults are for, to guide and take care of diseases and dangers that they do not yet know, that's what paternity is about, teaching and guiding, they will make their decisions when they grow up. The concepts and advice are countercultural, yes, but I encourage you to always examine everything, to investigate deeply and retain the good, apply it and enjoy it. I have noted with sadness that currently there are people who are dedicated to denigrating and attacking anyone who thinks differently and wants scientific evidence, their "arguments" if they can be called like that, they are fallacious and only backed by an "I". I can do whatever I want to do "and it is true, they should only consider the consequences of living a life without thinking about the consequences of decisions, both for them and for their children. I hope that we can continue to be respectful and loving with all people, and that we understand that every countercultural message will be ridiculed more and more by the same people who demand respect and tolerance. Let's show the love of Christ in our opinions and answers. We can also teach our girls, not muddy what we do not like, but to be logical, reasonable women, who address others with respect and treat everyone with dignity, even those who have different ideas from us. We should not be ashamed or silent about biblical principles or verifiable information, principles and values with which we want to raise our children. The world is a temporary place where everyone can and should live with respect and love.

SPANISH: __________________________________________________________________

Many people choose a word for their year, they are generally beautiful words, inspiring, full of hope, hope, and challenge, have you seen it before? No one would ever choose a sad word for their year right?.

However, we must admit, that many times, what we long for or plan to start a year, is perhaps very different from what God will choose for us. Although, I saw the tender hand of God, full of kindness and mercy over me, every day...  if I am sincere and I would use a word to describe 2018 it would be this: Suffering. Perhaps only 2003 is compared, (although in a different way).

It draws my attention that this word is precisely the title of this book, which was one of the very best I read during that year. And I know not only that word describes my year, but that of many people I love, and surely also for many people around the world facing different circumstances and stages of life. It's interesting to see how the perceptions of your life, of people who do not know you, through a screen is so different from reality.

We must all be prepared to face pain, that is why resources like this, sincere, profound, biblical, are necessary. I thank God that without knowing, and in His sweet providence I have been reading, over the last few years, precisely on this subject.

These content helped me to be in a certain way "prepared" to face the unexpected and although it is still painful, at least you can decide to surrender and focus your thoughts on the truth. We are so fragile, everything is so unstable, changing, finite, temporary, that I continually recommend being prepared for pain,

I do not imagine how people can live their lives without God and without hope. The ideas we have about suffering will directly affect our perceptions and reactions. I would have loved to learn more about this subject during my childhood, more about the pain, sovereignty, and goodness of God, yes, all of it mixed, present and available in everyone's life, at the same time, laughter and tears. It's never too late to start.

This book, for example, has great content, I felt so related while reading with one of my favorite authors, Paul David Tripp. Thank God for him, thankful for his honesty, and his fidelity to share his teachings and heart in the midst of suffering and also thankful with Crossway books, for publishing deep books just like this one.
P.S. I got a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review, I would not accept that. All opinions are my own and I'm very blessed about edifying my spirit and soul with this book, in the middle of suffering. It was a great encouragement. #Suffering #NetGalley #Crossway #CrosswayBooks
