ESV Story of Redemption Bible Review - Crossway

ESV Story of Redemption Bible Review

Bibles are a treasure for me, I really like to read different versions. Each year I try to read a different one. This Bible one was released on September 30, 2018 and since I saw it I knew I wanted it for 2019!.

I'm so ready to start enjoying it, specially going deep through the New Testament. It is very exciting to open a Bible and to know you have the plan of God in front of you, written, yours.

The gold letters say it: "A journey through the Unfolding Promises of God". Life's journey is so short and we need to dig deep to get God's treasures for us and understand the eternal truths. I'm so thankful that sharing the story of redemption still a priority for a lot of us, and publishers like Crossway always remind me about it and that is very important for us as a family. As I will share later, we found very useful the timeline, the chronological review, notes and the reading plans.

Let me show you some pictures about this lovely Bible and some things I consider important before I get a new Bible, I'll tell you the possitive and negative:

The Translation: ESV is considered a very reliable English Version of the Bible, so the most important thing is covered. Some features:

The color: Cream color pages are lovely, it is very easy to read. The size of the Bible: The Bible is big, but considering the content it has, you would consider it as a standart size and weight it is confortable to use.The size of the letter: I'm so glad it is not that little, I'm so sad to say that it does not contain the words of Jesus in red (that would be a negative thing for me), but I think it woudn't look the same, but probably another dark brown color would do.

Single column!I really liked that is a single column in every page, it looks clean and easy to read.

The looks: This Bible is absolutey beautiful.

When I saw it the first time I thought the covers where beige and I thought "oh no... it is going to get dirty very soon", but only the cover it is beige, you can remove it and you have a lovely black and gold design in the hard cover, is beautiful and very classy!

The Ilustrations: I really enojoy the ilustrations and maps inside, it is not a very common content. When you open the Bible the ilustrations are outstanding, you may want to check the artist portafolio.

It has ilustrations about every book, it is very interesting to see why did he draw everything. If your mind is a mind about pictures and shapes, you can memorize an overview of the book remembering the icons.

The NotesIn the middle of two lines you can find Pastor Greg Gilbert notes, those are very useful while you read because they give you a wise perspective about the reading.

The timeline insideThere is a large timeline at the end of the Bible and my children were very interested about it, he is 12 and she is 8. You can use that opportunity to talk to them about the story of redemption.

An idea for you: This would be an awesome present for anyone. It could be a Bible for men or women. I don't know why I think a women would appreciate it more, probably about the looks, but it is not for women only.
The pages
:
The only thing that I didn't like very much is that the pages are very very thin, so I do not recommend these for people that are not very careful with their books, it is not a bible designed for journaling but studying. There is comfortable space to take notes in the margins (I'm always very thankful about it! that is a very very positive thing for me). I would like a Bible just like this but with thick pages, but I guess that would make the Bible more big and heavy and probably I would prefer it just like it is!

Reading plan: If you enjoy reading plans you will enjoy that it contains some at the end and a chronological overview.

A Journey through the Unfolding Promises of God
Hardcover
The Bible is the epic story of the unfolding plan of God over the course of the history of the world. The ESV Story of Redemption Bible: A Journey through the Unfolding Promises of God leads readers on a journey through this storyline from start to finish, with conversational commentary written by pastor Greg Gilbert interspersed throughout the full ESV text. With the aim of encouraging interaction and contemplation passage by passage, Gilbert explains how every part of Scripture fits together and is ultimately centered on Christ. Particularly suitable to those who are new to the Bible but rich with insights for even the most seasoned Bible reader, the ESV Story of Redemption Bible will draw readers in as they see their place in the greatest story ever told.
Endorsements:
“The Bible is united by a single plot centering on Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of the Father—but sometimes we lose the trail. Greg Gilbert helps us find it again in his excellent commentary throughout this Bible.”
“How I wish I had had a Bible like this a long time ago—a Bible that briefly yet clearly sets each passage of Scripture in the context of the larger story of the Bible. I look forward to recommending this resource to many who want to go deeper in understanding how the Bible fits together.”
“Too many view the Bible as a disconnected series of moral tales interspersed between impossible commandments, woven into a maze of mysteries that somehow produces a message about a nice Jesus in the New Testament to counter the mean God of the Old Testament. Greg Gilbert carefully and pastorally undoes such a view by showing how all the parts of the Bible contribute to the single story thread of a gracious God who is determined to overcome sinful humanity’s choices and corruptions with the redemptive work of Christ Jesus.”
