When I read the description of this book I had a huge laugh (especially in the part about washing your face and the hustle). I like it when girls focus on God instead of themselves, culture or what other people say. Firstborns may benefit themselves a lot of this kind of topic, to grow in gratitude and have your priorities clear. It is not a very deep book but a practical one even people who don´t read a lot may understand.

Where I live there is a lot of classism, you don´t see that much problem with racial issues, but with economic issues. It is sad and this book made me think about it even when it is another topic. It is so important to talk about Lament, not many Christians are related to the topic and they don´t care about being biblical with this important part of dealing with pain and hard issues such as racial reconciliation. I don´t remember if I told you about the other book by the same author Dark clouds, deep mercy (I also enjoyed that one). I hope this author continues writing. I pray God help us to love as He loves.

Sometimes even as adults, we don´t even get how we feel, or we know how but it is hard to verbalize... imagine being a teenager. We need to be aware all the time about what they are dealing with, how to stay close, and develop great communication. Every resource who tries to be a tool to engage with them and lead them to the truth I cherish. (MIB). I read very harsh reviews about this book, mainly from nonbelievers, I wonder why they bother to read something they already know they won´t like. I think we need to read about it in different voices and approaches. This book is for Christian people, read it with that in mind, you will find prayers at the end of every chapter. You will find these titles and you may find them interesting and the teen can relate with them. Obviously, not all the cases are the same but you can start engaging in a conversation about it.

1. Circular Sarah
2. Tense Tom
3. Doomed Dave (this is the author's testimony)
4. Imaginative Imogen
5. Panicky Paul
6. Faithless Flavia
7. Controlling Colin
8. Depressed Dan
9. Negative Nicole
10. Workaholic Will
11. Beautiful Brianna
12. Media Max

This is not exactly a book, but a short little booklet is going to be enjoyable for you if you like Lysa TerKeurst. I liked the way she talks about obedience and If you read her book "When Women say yes to God" you will see that is kind of the same content (I´m not sure if it exactly the same because I gave the other one away). I had a nice memory about when I was single and I also felt I had to give my bible away... in a bus station. And later a book in a plane never imagined the same thing happened to someone else and it was written in a but. That was fun. I obviously didn´t "hear" the voice of God in my ears, but it was like an inner conviction inside that I should do it (just to let it clear: I wanted to keep my book and my bible, didn´t intend to give them away). I already read the book she is referring to and didn´t know it was about it when I got this one. I must admit I don´t like the title very much, because it sounds kind of mistic and I believe the Word of God is written and we can have access to it, with no need of guessing what is he telling. I like that she admits she has never heard (audible) the voice of God. She talks about impressions and thoughts. There are study questions and I just invite you to check it out and find out if you find it helpful or not. We all need to be very into God´s word so we can discern his will. We need to separate feelings from His Word. Not my favorite by her, one must admit. She has other great titles by the way.

You can not read Tozer without thinking: He loved God. He really wanted to please him. It is why I took this devotional (even when I´m not very into devotional books, why then am I chose to give this a try? Because I have enjoyed Tozer´s books a lot in the past. I see him as a very passionate and deep thinker. I remember I shared before how much I enjoy Tozer´s books).

In this devotional book, you have a passage from the Bible, some words written by Tozer, and short prayers. Y
ou will find wisdom, hope, and encouragement to love God and His Word. This book is made of several of his writings during his life and short prayers. I think is an enjoyable book where you can grow your love and knowledge about the Almighty God every day of the year. Look for the other devotionals of this series, they are also great.

Another note about the author: I shared before how much it was disappointing to me when I read in a bio about Tozer when they share how He neglected His family. I wanted to stop reading about Him and was very sad to find out this part of his sad story. Then, I changed my mind, I decided I was going to still read his material, toss the bad, embrace the good (that is a lot) but always keeping in mind He was just a person, like everyone immersed in his own fallacies, sin, and temptation. I´m sure all the authors have a lot of sad and ugly things, but not everyone has been exposed to a biography. Also, I can recall every time I remember Tozer, how much you can get into something that you may tend to forget or run away from the most important goals God trusted us in this life, you can have mistakes and still being a tool for others to know about God.

You can read this devotional alone or with your family, I think it is a good idea to involve young readers with this author.

Oh...I know this is not a book about love but it is all that you feel since you start the love of the couple involved (the author and his wife). What a couple. #CoupleGoals

I love books who are this kind of enthusiastic, lovable, sweet, but no cheezy. I can relate a lot with things that He writes. I love books who are read by the author, nothing like his natural expression in every pharagraph.

Surround your life with people who loves you well... this is so true.

I'm sooo glad I got this one! (available in audio and book, read by the author, my kind of thing). I needed an easy read just to enjoy and relax and I'm so glad I took it. This author is very peculiar, I laughed a lot! I enjoyed all the stories he shares and made me think A LOT. Consider giving it a try. He is a best seller author. The title is new and it has almost 5 start 400 reviews already, happy to be one of them.

Life is so short, it is better to dream and live big.

Sanctification: God's Passion for His People By John MacArthur - Crossway

ENGLISH:
I thought my husband would enjoy this book. I also like to read these topics.

This author is controversial lately and although many of his decisions or comments we do not share, if you read his material you will see that there is truth and useful things in his content

This issue is complex, it is because we are sinners and we are in the process of sanctification.

It is difficult because it will take us a lifetime and because as I advance through the pages I can see how I still have a long way to go, but it is simple because I know that the same grace that bought me and the faithful provision of the Lord will sustain me and lead me to the final.

I think of the shepherds and the responsibility they have before God for the lives that have been entrusted to them and it gives me chills ... then I think of the mothers and fathers who have a small flock at home and it also gives me the creeps.

Our goal is not to raise children who look "decent", but to be sanctified and transformed into the image of Christ, we cannot achieve that by ourselves, but that is not why we are going to stop praying and sowing, being diligent in their instruction and what we have to do in the upbringing and formation of their little hearts. God have mercy on us and finish the work you started, for your glory and our good.

A phrase grace: "Grace cannot be taken as a mat to clean our shoes from sin, but reigns as a monarch over us." I am grateful for the tender care of the King who rules overall. Without holiness no one will see the Lord, it sounds strong, but it is Word. May the Lord find us praying and watching at all times, praying that we will have the strength to escape all these things that are about to happen, and we can stand before the Son of Man (as it says in Luke 21:36).

IMPORTANT: Many are bothered that I read other books that are not the Bible, even so I will continue reading, the Bible and other books as well. Like everything, I do not believe that a human being possesses all the wisdom, nor that he is the owner of the truth, His Word is true. Scrutinize everything, examine it, keep the good, discard the bad.

Sanctification: God's Passion for His People

About the book:
"Sanctification is a powerful tract for our times—a purposefully short book. You can read it in an hour or two, but its goal is the transformation of the rest of your life."
—Sinclair B. Ferguson, Chancellor's Professor of Systematic Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary; Teaching Fellow, Ligonier Ministries
Among all the things that a pastor will do on any given day, he must not lose sight of his one ultimate goal: the sanctification of God’s people. This is the heart of God’s purpose for Christians.
John MacArthur calls pastors to remember what all the countless hours preparing sermons, visiting hospitals, counseling, conducting weddings, and more are all about, even when the finish line seems so far in the distance that they’re tempted to give up. He encourages pastors with the power God gives them to place the sanctification of God’s people at the center of their ministry.

Current etiquette, does it even exist? Looking around millennials don´t seem to care. If you are interested in manners, etiquette, and all this stuff you will find this book interesting. In an era of "Bridezillas", all the interest about food, thank you notes, selfies all around and political correctness, materialism, a lot of things. Is a reference book but you must decide what works for you and whatnot, she writes with common popular sense (even when it is not common anymore). You will laugh when you think about the things that happen nowadays, people demanding presents, fundraising for divorce, adoption, and college, interesting. You probably will laugh and some other times thing: what´s going on in this world... how am I going to raise my children?. If you listen to this audiobook, tell me what you think.

Description

Minding Miss Manners: In an Era of Fake Etiquette is a modern guide to modern manners. Growing Together: Taking Mentoring beyond Small Talk and Prayer Requests By Melissa B. Kruger - Crossway

I had too many expectations of this book. I can say that it is useful to disciple a woman from zero. Preferably if she is a new believer. If you have been a believer for many years ... Let's say it serves to review concepts, but I do not know if it is redundant or uncomfortable to address such basic topics again.

I thought that it would be more than anything a book full of questions to initiate topics or bring the relationship closer and make it grow from someone who is already in Christ and must mature in order to disciple others.

I do not criticize the book as totally bad, it is organized, it is just that it is not what I needed or had in mind to use with women who already know Christ and still need or ask for mentoring. I enjoyed reading it as they are topics of interest to me. I would consider addressing those topics with someone.

There were some things that reminded me of my grandmother and that this author does not share ... for example the verse of "Therefore, be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48" the author says that it is not necessary to be perfect and places a lot of emphasis on exposing weaknesses. I think I understand her point, but the way she put it ... I think it lends itself to misinterpretation. Quote: "Perfection is impossible. Howerver, we can be women who seek to love God in all we think, say an do. That´s what your mentee needs most: a woman who earnestly desires to know God and glorify him with her life" ... "Perfection isn´t the goal. Instead, try to develop healthy patterns of bible reading". I suggest if you are interested in this topic ... check Adorned by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth and Susan Hunt's books. I will keep waiting for a title on this topic perhaps, or I will continue with interviews with devoted women.

About the book:

Women in all seasons of life can feel alone, longing for encouragement, guidance, and wisdom from someone who has been there before. They would value the wealth of knowledge and wisdom from older women’s experiences, but often these women don’t feel equipped to offer help. This book is a starting place, meant to be a springboard for mentoring discussions between older and younger women, setting the biblical basis for mentoring from Titus 2 before outlining 11 lessons that guide their time together. Each lesson focuses on a topic such as God’s word, prayer, contentment, temptation, and church, with activities for before, during, and after the mentoring session. Younger and older women will grow together as they use these lessons to walk through life together.

You can find many important topics to talk about with your family and children. This is not the kind of topic I use to enjoy, I don´t believe in messages that care so much about happiness, but I thank the author's effort to point you to Jesus's teachings. It is the first book I read about his author. Sermon of the mount is one of my favorites in the bible and it's interesting to see how many authors write about it. We live in a world that lives upside down, so we need to embrace countercultural messages and embrace what the bible says about them.
