He venido a apreciando mucho el trabajo de los Ortlund. No sé aún si es su manera de expresarse o su claridad al hacerlo, o su contenido elegido, pero me hace sentido y me es fácil de conectar con ellos. Aunque no soy mucho de leer diario un devocional, reconozco que disfruté mucho este, quizá por los otros contenidos de tipo no devocional que he leído de Ortlund y que me han animado en mi caminar de fe. I have come to greatly appreciate the work of the Ortlunds. I don't know yet if it's their way of expressing themselves or their clarity in doing so, or their chosen content, but it makes sense to me and it's easy for me to connect with them. Although I am not much of a reader of a devotional every day, I admit that I really enjoyed this one, perhaps because of the other non-devotional content that I have read from Ortlund and that has encouraged me in my walk of faith. Enjoy this devotional if you need encouragement, comfort or consider giving it to someone else, its cover is beautiful, but even more so is the inside.

Yes, I found this book vulnerable and the author shared interesting and practical things you can implement to grow in this area. You may find helpful ways to open up and grow in vulnerability. I perceived this was not an easy task for the author and I admire the enormous effort that it took to write this. What I didn´t expect was so many references and quotations to Brené Brown, I´d rather read something more personal or researched by someone than read something inspired by another author´s work, it´s just my personal preference. When that happens, I would prefer to read all the material someone quotes than her actual books. I admire the author´s efforts to open up and help others, being brave enough to be vulnerable. It is a small and easy book to go through and reflect.

Life can seemingly be fine on the surface. But for any of us who scratch that surface, we recognize anxiety, shame, disappointment, and regret. And yet, in the depths of these feelings, in the things we hate about ourselves, others, and this world, we can invite God’s presence.

This is the essence of holy vulnerability. To enter into holy vulnerability is to intentionally expose our raw wounds so that God can heal and mend and transform us.

What happens when we refuse this depth of healing? Este libro es para hombres, para pastores. Yo lo acabo de leer porque fue un regalo (a mi esposo le gusta David Powlison y cuando hay libros de él me gusta conseguirselos) y porque aunque soy mujer y obviamente no soy pastor, disfruto aprendiendo mucho de los libros David Powlison, es excelente en el área de consejería bíblica.

Este es un libro corto, tiene como 80 páginas, lo lees en un par de sentadas.

Creo que es un libro que sirve como aliento y exhortación para los Pastores, (sobre todo para los que no les gusta tanto el área de la Consejería y preferirían destinar sus esfuerzos y tiempo en otras áreas). Es un libro que también puede ser de mucha utilidad  para personas que sirven en el área de Consejería Cristiana ¿por qué? porque al leerlo te darás cuenta de las características ÚNICAS que tiene la consejería directa con un pastor y no tanto con un "aficionado" o incluso un "profesional" ya sea psicólogo, psiquiatra, consejero, couch de vida, etc. Es un libro que te hace valorar y respetar a los pastores que aconsejan, pues lo que dicen puede ser tomado como de parte de Dios.

Cada página que pasaba, pensaba en cuántas historias habrá vivido David Powlison para expresarse así. También pensaba al leer todo lo que expone, que es triste que esa área se delegue cada vez más a otras personas, creo que al leerlo todo pastor se pudiera sentir animado a incursionar y abrazar este llamado incomparable que tiene. Es una oportunidad única la que Dios les ha otorgado de intervenir para bien en la vida de alguien más.

Da gracias por tu pastor y el tiempo que se toma de escuchar orar e involucrarse en la vida espiritual y emocional de sus ovejas, su labor es única, su llamado también, incomparable.  Leer esto te puede ayudar a comprenderlo más.

Why? because when reading it you will realize the UNIQUE characteristics that direct counseling with a pastor has and not so much with an "amateur" or even with a "professional" be it a psychologist, psychiatrist, counselor, life coach, etc. It is a book that makes you value and respects the pastors who advise because what they say can be taken as from God.

With each page that turned, he thought about how many stories David Powlison would have lived to express himself that way. I also thought when reading everything he exposes, that it is sad that that area is increasingly being delegated to other people, I think that by reading it, every pastor could feel encouraged to venture out and embrace this incomparable vocation that he has. It is a unique opportunity that God has given you to intervene for the good in someone else's life.

Give thanks for your shepherd and the time he takes to listen to prayer and to get involved in the spiritual and emotional life of his sheep, his work is unique, his vocation also incomparable. Reading this can help you understand it better.
